How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

You'd have to get a weave, otherwise it won't be possible.

If your hair is medium to short, it's going to be had to put it up into a "smooth" ponytail. Your ends will look raggedy.

Flat iron it if you want straight hair, and grow your hair out.

How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

if your do not want to perm it press it with ceramic flat irons and do not use and oil

How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

I am not totally sure but my daughter is biracial and I spray it with Olive Oil detangler and then smooth on Pink Lotion and use a Boar brush and that does pretty well. The boar brush does wonders and doesn't hurt her as much. You may have to straighten with a press.

How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

Try a hot comb. Its what we used to do in the 70's. They used to call the hair style a blow out. It can make medium length hair long. Caution it can be painful, LOL but effective if that is your desired result.

How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

LOL! Damn...I've been wondering the same thing, lol just today...haha!

How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

of course you already know for it to be smooth you first need a press or perm. Depending on where you put the ponytail it will look longer and also how your hair is cut. Try using a pomade like Murray's wave or beeswax. It helps keep everything in place. I like to tie my hair down with a bandana to keep the hair tight. Good luck. I dont recommend a weave those look tacky with ponytails.

What is the best heat protectant for african american hair with a straight perm?

Believe it or not products that aren't neccessarily advertised for black people work on our hair. Garnier Fructis has a sleek and shine line that I use and its great! it made my hair stronger because I flat iron my hair a lot. Read the back of some of the products and look for heat protectors. Garnier Fructis has products with heat protectors, Alberto VO5, Thermasilk and a lot more. I use Garnier it works for me! Good Luck with that!

What is the best heat protectant for african american hair with a straight perm?

N0 HEAT!! [haha]

Honestly, just make sure you keep it moisturized...that's key especially with a perm. and try to stay away from using heat as much as you can...roll it when you can, instead of curling it. and wrap it [depending on length] instead of straightening it with heat.

What is the best heat protectant for african american hair with a straight perm?

Nothing, heated hair appliances are very bad for the hair especially when a chemical has been added. Both will dry out the hair, make it become brittle and then eventually break off. Just add a hair dressing to you hair roll it up at the ends with the plastic, snap on, magnetic rollers.

Where can I find a hairdresser for African American hair in Japan.?

Someone asked this awhile ago. I so saved it because I needed to know for future reference.

I was told are more likely to find places in Roppongi, or near army bases that tend to Black hair. I was also informed you can ask the consulate for some information, which would still probably result in an area around a US army base.

I also have this website:

African American: How long to grow tailbone length hair?

I am mixed with african american and asian.

My hair is about shoulder length now.

How long would it take me to grow my hair out to thick, tailbone length? How many years?

I have a regimen that I am following. Trims. Washing every AT LEAST once a week. Deep conditioning. Doing protein treatments. Massaging scalp w/oil. Low to no heat manipulation. Taking vitamins essential for healthy hair growth. Drinking 64 oz of water per day. Eating healthy. Exercising. Keeping hair in protective style, ie, big, thick plaits. etc. etc. So, with me properly taking care of my hair, how long do you think it will take to get to tailbone length?

Don't give dumb answers please.

Thanks in advance. =]

Any information given is greatly appreciated.

i know about a jerry curl kit but thats not what i'm lookin for and if you know any websites for curly hairstyles let me know thanks

Can african american relax hair turn curly with any hair products is so can you let me know the product?

When I want my hair scrunchy, I just wash it, towel dry it, and while it's still damp apply gel and mousse to scrunch it to my liking. Depending on your hair type, it should come out the way you want it.

閳?br>Can african american relax hair turn curly with any hair products is so can you let me know the product?

Wash it and apply curl gel to it, that makes it curly. If I let my hair air dry and apply gel (curl gel) it will curl up.

How can i make my hair grow..[african american] my hair is already a great lenght but i want it a li

Hey Girl,

The easiest way to get your hair longer is to let your hair grow without the application of chemical processes like hair relaxers or perms. I am speaking from experience. I have been completly natural or chemical free since 2004. I have been a natural off and on for almost eight years. 2004, was the last time I cut all my hair off. Every time I have let my hair go with a relaxer, my hair has grown past my shoulders- then I'd get the itches for a relaxer. Each and every time I relaxed my hair, my hair would slowly but surely start to break off at the ends. Mind you, I did not go to cheap salons, either. It was like no matter what I did, my hair would become brittle from the perm. Also, my hair growth was BARELY NOTICIBLE. When you are free of relaxers, your hair grows by leaps and bounds. The last time I cut my hair was in the fall of 2004. It was shoulder length at the time, I was so disguested with my hair breaking off- I was like "forget it!" That was the last time I cut more than seven inches of my hair off. My hair has grown so much since then, freinds ask me often if I'm wearing a weave. Also, on a daily basis, I use olive oil on my hair and I visit a salon about every two months to get my hair ends clipped. Hope this helps! God Bless!

How can i make my hair grow..[african american] my hair is already a great lenght but i want it a little longe

Leave in Berts Bee's Avacado conditioner for a day while you are kicking it around your flat.

Or Jojoba oil from any health place, heat it up and leave in hair.

Repairs the cells and gives them nutrients.

Also a small "gro" cut will help remove split ends which will make your hair want to grow more.

How can i make my hair grow..[african american] my hair is already a great lenght but i want it a little longe

unfortunatly, we can't make our hair grow longer faster. the best thing to do is to keep it healthy, it will grow at its own pace. however, make sure you deep condition (depending on texture) weekly, treat your hair to a hot oil treatment, and try to stay away from the heat. our hair can't handle all of it. but if you must protect it from heat. and of course our hair gets thirsty, so give it plenty of oil (not too much bc that will weigh it down). i love extra virgin olive oil, mixed with joba. ps watch out for split ends, and you should see hair growth within 4-8 months.

How can i make my hair grow..[african american] my hair is already a great lenght but i want it a little longe

You can try alot of salon products which are made for hair growth but good luck bcuz most of the time they dont work.. best thing to do is wait and get extensions for the meantime....fushion extensions are expensive but worth it cuz they last at least 9 months-a year

Is keratin bonding safe for african american hair.?

i wouldn't use the word "safe" but rather how much damage? I'm not totally familiar with what you are talking about. I don't know if you're talking about fusion hair, but it has to be removed as carefully as it was put in... see when you having something bonded or fused with your real hair that's gonna stress your hair to a certain extent. but with fusion it's different because it's tiny tiny strands being fused with extensions so it's not like a quick weave with a glob of glue and tracks stuck on your head. anything in which you're adding on is going to cause some damage to it, but it should be minimal. but i would consult with a hair care consultant. just not someone that does hair, but with someone that can do hair and can keep it healthy as well.

Are there any beauty products that grows African American hair without making it greasy?

I have been taking hair supplements for the past 3 years and here is what I have found.

ProCaps labs makes a great supplement called "Hair Skin and Nails" formula, here is the link for that

http://www.procapslabs.com/pcl/pages/pro...

This is in capsule form and easy to swallow. This company, ProCaps labs is also extremely reputable and carries pure and effective products.

I took GNC's Nourishair for four months, and supplemented it with extra Biotin tablets daily due to its low Biotin content. I took 2500 micrograms extra Biotin with the GNC pills.

The Procaps hair vites have 2500 micrograms of Biotin in them, and don't really require extra Biotin be taken, but I do take an additional 2500 micrograms of Biotin for a daily total of 5000 micrograms of Biotin.

My hair is growing in thick and dark and quite quickly. My hair used to be very slow growing, but all of these supplements have really made a difference.

The only way to really change the health of your hair is by taking supplements that work internally on the follicle where hair is made, any shampoos or oils or other topically applied things do nothing to change hair's structure, that can only happen with systemically provided support, which means supplements that you take internally.. Keep in mind, regardless of how many or how much you take of any supplement, hair is never going to grow at a "Jack and the beanstalk" type of rate, the most you can hope for is to improve the strength and health of each hair follicle and to see an incremental increase in the rate of its growth

Are there any beauty products that grows African American hair without making it greasy?

try Carolsdaughter.com....her products are natural and feel and smell wonderful. They cost a little more than you would pay in a store, but I love the whole natural concept and the products really do work. Try the Hair Milk to moisturize your hair. Wonderful!!!!! Makes our hair curl much better also.

Are there any beauty products that grows African American hair without making it greasy?

U can use Prenatual Vitamins which r natural . Just go to the section in any Wal-Green's, CVS, r GNC. This will also make your nails grow. U can also use Doo Gro Products like the shampoo and conditoner if u donot want to use the grease in your hair. U do need some type of moisture in your hair without it being greasy. Go to any Beauty Supple Store especially like Sally's. Good luck!

Are there any beauty products that grows African American hair without making it greasy?

use 100% cocunut oil u get it from an indian community it does wonders to ur hair. u can also use oils like castor oil. castor oil is very thick so mix it with other oils.

What are some good ways to make an african american persons hair grow longer?

my hair is shoulder length, and i want to get it a little past my chest. what are some ways that will help it grow besides trimming?

What are some good ways to make an african american persons hair grow longer?

Well I am african american and my hair comes down past the middle of my back. It's about as long as the singer Aaliyah's was, but I dont have a perm...I was going to suggest you not have a perm and keep your natural hair braided. My mom kept my hair braided when I was a child and then when I was old enough I would get it flat ironed and pressed.

What are some good ways to make an african american persons hair grow longer?

Get some hair weave sewed in and keep doing that for about a month after you take it out get a relaxer your hair will have grown a lot

What are some good ways to make an african american persons hair grow longer?

while you're washing your hair, massage your scalp. Your hair will growth longer faster because by massaging your scalp it gets the blood flowing in your hair, this produces more hair growth.

What are some good ways to make an african american persons hair grow longer?

well one thing stop putting perms in your hair I 'm African,Asian, and Andean so my choice if i were you get some mizani shampoo that's good to put geese in your hair every day and start combing it every single day and stop bushing it

What are some good ways to make an african american persons hair grow longer?

check the links below for natural homemade beauty tips to:-- How can you get a faster hair growth

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

GNC has a supplement called "Nourishair" that makes the hair grow faster, you can read what's in it by googling it.

Also ProCaps labs sells a "hair skin and nails" formula that does the same thing, supports hair growth and health

If you take only Biotin alone, make sure you take at least 2.5 milligrams or 2500 micrograms [the same thing] a day because thats' a good amount to take. I use the Nourshair supplement from GNC now and my hair is growing faster than it did, but it took about 6 to 8 weeks of daily use to see results.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

You have to be African American, sorry.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

i dunno obviously , but i do think it is very pretty when they have their hair a little long and put a product to tame it and the curls are all over....i think this looks great as opposed to the braids and such...

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

use protein after you wash and before you condition your hair. the protein helps your become stronger which leads to growth.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

you just grow it out to the length you want it cutting it every 3-4 months to prevent split ends, but only take off about 1/4-1/2 of an inch so it will get longer.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

My girlfriend was African American and she had really pretty hair. She used really good conditioner to keep it moisturized well. She also wrapped it every night when she slept. She told me that her hair was more fragile to damage and I guess that is why she did it. She also used "Pink" oil sheen to put extra moisture in it.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

It simple, if you want to do this you must only use all natural products.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

Prenatal vitamins work very well! My hairdresser tells his clients to take them (they work on all kinds of hair)! Good luck.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

during the summer I wear quick weaves. I will change it up every week or so. In between I keep it washed, but no perms. I think last time I went 4 months that way. I will say by the time October comes I will take the quick weave down, wash my hair really well. On the next day, sinc u have to wait 24 hours after shampoo to do perm, I will base my scalp with Sensitive Scalp and get a perm. The perm is going to take so well and it will have lenght cause under the weave it has nothing else to do but grow. No chemicals have been on it and it has been clean. Only thing with the weave is MAY SURE YOU TAKE THEM OUT CORRECTLY. There is bond remover, I've heard of oil being used, even wash it and let the conditioner sit until they slide out.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

I once colored my hair and some of it ended up falling out! I had a thin spot at the back of my head and I wanted to make it grow back ASAP. My hair grew back quickly when I used DOO GRO products. They have hair grease, oil moisturizer (kinda like Pink Oil), shampoos, conditioners, etc. Also wash your hair often and brush it so that your hair follicles get stimulated.

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

regular shampoo,trims and conditioning treatments

What is the best way to grow african american hair ?

Drink lots of water, take vitamins (biotin, msm, flaxseed oil), wash your hair at least once week, and keep it moisturized. Water and moisturizer are the key.

Braids also help with growth because you're not manipulating your hair with heat and combing. When you are applying heat, use some type of heat protectant (dudley's creme press is good) before blow drying, flat ironing basically any type of heat being applied needs this.

Protein treatments are good too. I do one, once a month. I use nexxus emergence and it works really well. This gives hair strength and structure.

After applying moisturizer ( I use S curl) you can seal your hair with a oil to lock it in. I use jojoba oil but coconut oil is popular as well. I suggest you join a hair board for african americans/naturals.

This is a good one. www.longhaircareforum.com

What are some salons that specialize in african american hair in far north dallas or plano or richar

I've seen a salon named "Ebony 4 U" on Alpha rd close to Preston Rd. It's close to the Steak N Shake.

What are some salons that specialize in african american hair in far north dallas or plano or richardson?

You definitely need to check out the Lakewood Salon (NE corner of Mockingbird and Abrams) and ask for Dionne Alexander. She does miracles with hair, best I've seen anywhere. She does perms, natural, weaves, braiding, wigs, you name it. She's a little pricey, but she's very experienced. She actually used to do hairs for celebrities and it ain't no bull either. Give her a try, you will be going back for more.

Hi. Visit http://www.squidoo.com/black-hair-salon to find a black hair stylist in your area.

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

Can someone recommend a product that will soften it, relax it and moisturize without making it oily. THANKS SO MUCH!

Take good care, Andrea

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

The Sunsilk brand shampoo works wonders, I would suggest the De-Frizz[green bottle], or Hydra TLC[pink bottle].

As well as Garnier Fructis Silk %26amp; Shine, and Pantene Pro V products.

All three brands cost a little bit more, but they all work! My hair used to be poofy and frizzy, very dry and thick, but those three products always helped to calm down my hair.

I also use Sunsilk Straighten Up[purple bottle] 24/7 creme, and it helps to keep my hair calm, and moisturized.

There is also an oil from Avon that you can put on your hair. It's in a small bottle, and you don't need a whole lot of it. I do not remember the name of it at the moment, but if you flip through a catalogue or talk to a sales rep, I'm sure you can find it!

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

YES! Use Raveen or an organic relaxer. I have the same hair (Hello, I'm black!) and use these products. For everyday use, hair mayonnaise and elasta qp glaze are the best.

Hope this helps - and merry Christmas!

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

I use Biosilk, a very small amount of it, rub it in your palms and run your hands through your hair while it is still damp. Try changing your shampoo and conditioner to some sort of moisturizing formula, and try to avoid blow drying by sleeping on wet hair and styling in the morning!

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

huh? African American hair is not frizzy or dry, that is just yours! AA hair is just extremely curly and thick, you didn't even mention that. And how do you "relax" hair? A RELAXER straightens hair, doesn't "relax it".

I suggest using a deep conditioner. Neutrogena makes a "mask". Well, almost every hair brand has a deep conditioner, but I suggest that one. If you are willing to spend money, but L'Anza Kuki Nut.

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

yes go to your local beauty supply and ask whoever is working what to buy, I use laminates, it's clear and blue colored bottles, the gel and the spray and they work wonderful

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

Try Northwest Scents products. They are formulated for highly textured hair types.

HI, I have frizzy, coarse, thick, dry hair, almost like african american hair.?

I wanted to share some tips on taking care of your hair, relaxers and flatironing damages the hair if done too often. If you knew how to take of it then you may enjoy being a natural. Wash, condition, leave in conditioner, moisturize and then oil. Your hair will grow and be healthy. Report It

What is a way to straighten my hair out without using chemical in my hair(african American female)?

a perm. my friend gets them and it turned her hair really straight

What is a way to straighten my hair out without using chemical in my hair(african American female)?

just use a flat iron and when you wash your hair use something like chi straight guard it will make your hair a lot straighter.

What is a way to straighten my hair out without using chemical in my hair(african American female)?

With a hot comb and flat iron. Ask your hair stylist more about it, he/she can likely do this for you, it costs less than a relaxer, but you have to get your hair "pressed" out more often. In the wintertime, a good pressing can last up to two weeks, just wrap your hair every night (tie it down with a satin hair wrap or doo-rag) and make sure to wrap it and cover it with a shower cap when you take your showers. Because of the humidity in the summer, your press can "sweat out" not long after leaving the hair dresser. Keep it natural in the summer or wear braids and in the fall through mid-spring, get it pressed. I hope that helped!

What is a way to straighten my hair out without using chemical in my hair(african American female)?

You could get a perm, but the is a little set back with that. I have thick natural curly hair in tight ringlets. I was going to get a perm the opposite way my curls were going, but when i went to get it done they told me that my curls would worst or it would just turn out to be wavy. I know you don't want to you a chemical, but a relaxer might help.

What is good for very, very dry african-american (natural)hair and scalp?

Just cut my hair to grow it natural-perms made it break-off and start coming out. No matter what I do to it,my hair and scalp tend to get very, very dry after shampooing and conditioning it.

What is good for very, very dry african-american (natural)hair and scalp?

I have natural hair, too. Sometimes shampoos containing sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate can dry out your hair. I use Revlon Creme of Nature shampoo because it's super moisturizing, doesn't contain sulfates and it's inexpensive. Hair grease could be what is making your hair dry, too. I used to wonder why my hair felt so dry despite the amount of hair grease I used. I later learned that the mineral oil and petroleum in the grease was the problem. Mineral oil and petroleum is not easily absorbed by the hair, makes it hard for your hair to absorb moisture and can slow down hair growth by clogging your pores. I use natural oils like coconut oil and shea butter instead of grease and it made a big difference. You should also protect your hair with a silk or satin scarf or use a satin pillowcase when you go to bed. The cotton on your pillowcase will absorb moisture from your hair leading to dry hair and hair breakage.

How do you care for african american permed hair?

When i had natural hair my hair was past my shoulders but now since i got a perm and cut it, ti just wont grow. I've tried almost everything by: washing,conditioning,massaging.etc. Can somebody please help me!!!

How do you care for african american permed hair?

relaxed hair is very sensitive and can be fragile if it is not taken well good care of. if u can afford it, visiting a salon every week will get it back to growing. the thing with relaxed hair, it has to be trained. washing and conditioning i very important for relaxed hair and proper trimmings to keep the ends from splitting..... dont use to much heat like hot irons and curling irons because it damages it and causes it to break off. creme of nature products are wonderful and try a grease like once a week like hair mayo or motions clear weightless oil and it also is good...

then on the other hand, the perm that u use could be too strong for your hair... if u were able to go unrelaxed then u prob have a nice grade of hair and then your hair prob jus needed a mild relaxer to keep it straight instead of wavy or curly...

jus remember

easy on the heat(irons, curlers etc.)

wash and condition(more in the summer becuz u sweat more)

grease and oil(at least once a week to keep from being dry)

good luck!!!

How do you care for african american permed hair?

just keep it moisturized with hair oil and dont mess with it too much

How do you care for african american permed hair?

the best way to care for black hair is to always keep your hair moisturised and not wet it every day .

How do you care for african american permed hair?

"Permed" (relaxed) hair can be VERY fragile. It's probably growing but breaking at the ends. Be sure you cover your hair with a silky scarf at night - you want to avoid friction that will increase breakage.

What is the best way to spike african american hair?

It depends on how coarse the hair is, if it is very coarse it will need to be relaxed first. Blow dried straight, Then use spiking pomade or gel.

What is the best way to spike african american hair?

Spikes usually work better on shorter hair, so if you have shorter hair, it'll work. Oh, it helps if it is relaxed. My friend spikes her hair all of the time and it looks cute! Hers is like the old Halle Berry cut, sort of, but she had her tips colored and she looks hot. Anyway, I think she actually uses spritz and a curling iron. My mother has a short cut as well and she just uses gel to scrunch and spike up individual pieces.

How long does it take for african-american male hair to grow a month or a year?

I was planning on getting my hair twisted when it grew to at least an inch. I know that eventually I'll have to take it out to wash my hair and get it redone. I didn't want to walk around with a big afro so I wanted my hair to grow down the sides of my head (like a girl's hair) when I take it out. I wanted to know if it is possible to get about 10 inches of growth within a year and what can I do to get it to grow down the sides without relaxing it or using a hot comb.

How long does it take for african-american male hair to grow a month or a year?

you can get 6-10 inches of growth in a year if your hair grows fast.Usually, african hair grows about half an inch every month.

It won't fall down the sides of your head like a girl's unless you straighten it.But the other option is to dreadlock it;it will grow and fall down your back naturally that way.

How to grow kinky, poofy, african-american type hair?

I have kinky hair (I'm a female) and I was wondering if anyone, particularly those with the same type of hair, know how I can grow it? Are there any particular hair products or greases or oils, etc. that I can use to keep it moisturized and healthy so that it can grow? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

How to grow kinky, poofy, african-american type hair?

The only way to grow your hair is to avoid doing things to it that would damage it or prevent it from growing and that means treatments like straighteners, any stressful styling like braiding or extentions etc, and excessive washing. There is no product that will "make it grow" however. This is the unfortunate truth for white hair, black hair, and balding men. If you aren't into the natural look and still want longer hair extentions look better and better (read: less fake) all the time. The cost is prohibitive though. Good luck!

How to grow kinky, poofy, african-american type hair?

Just use hair oisl that contains natural herbs, vitamins. Then message your scalp and hairline area at least twice a week.

How do I care for my African American NATURAL HAIR?

I have ben growing my hair out for one year. I recently took my braids out and have decided to finally wear my natural hair. The problem is, I have had relaxed hair the majority of my life and I only know how to care for relaxed hair. How do I care for my newly natural hair? I need some tips! Thanks in advance!

How do I care for my African American NATURAL HAIR?

Curly/kinky hair needs moisture, moisture, and more moisture! . Avoid drying products such as hair spray, mousse, holding gels, etc. Opt for moisturizers, leave-in conditioners, and styling lotions. Black hair requires more oil. Look for natural oils and quality ingredients. Also when combing your hair use a wide tooth comb as oppose to fine. A fine tooth comb will just literaly rip your hair out plus it will hurt like heck.

How do I care for my African American NATURAL HAIR?

There are alot of "Natural" hair care products out there. Find one that fits your hair texture and style. You mainly want to keep your hair/scalp oiled and not dry. If it's dry it will break off easily and look damaged. Care for it just as you did your relaxed hair. Pantene's Relaxed and Natural line has a really good daily conditioner. Also, there's a product that adds extra Shine to your hair. Keep your ends trimmed and your hair will continue to grow. I think natural hair grows faster then relaxed. When I was younger my natural hair was thicker and longer then my hair now...

How should I do my African American daughter hair for school I CAN'T DO HAIR?

She's going the 3rd grade and I can't do hair. She needs a perm which I can't do! What cute hairstyle can I give her for school? I can't braid. She wants her hair flat ironed like mine but her hair is to thick I can't DO IT!

How should I do my African American daughter hair for school I CAN'T DO HAIR?

Hi There, if I can first make a recommendation, please, do NOT get her a perm/relaxer. It will open up a whole new can of difficulties for you and your little one, and weaken the strength of her natural hair.

I'm black, and I flat iron my hair once a week after washing and air drying it, because I prefer to wear it straight. When I don't my hair is super curly, kind of like the singer Mya, but NEVER dry or poofy, anymore.

Two years ago, I got tired of using the "greases" and oils being sold for black hair on the market and stopped using them. After that, I started a company of natural products especially for black and biracial hair called Humble. I saw too much need, too much hype (even among the natural companies), and too many promises that didn't deliver.

My bf is white and uses it on her daughters' hair, one like mine, the other has thick, curly, and coarse hair. When she flat irons it with Humble, their hair is straight, non-poofy, and has gorgeous shine. I've got the before and afters.

I apologize for sounding like an advertisement, but it does work. I have talked to social/case workers, work with an adoption agency, and work with parents who didn't know what to do with their children's black hair. It is challenging, but you CAN do it, with some help.

Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to see pics of some of the children whose parents use Humble. The site should be up Sept. 15, if you'd care to wait until then to see the pics, however.

I wish you all the best.

I would advise that you take her to your local African American salon because I have thick hair and unmanagable hair and I go to the salon and it looks fin if you wrap it at night...just take her to a salon or tell her you can't do her hair like yours hey she's only going to third grade. Or you could either go to the store and get motions products which works fo ethnic hair and it's pretty good so at least you canmanage her hair

How should I do my African American daughter hair for school I CAN'T DO HAIR?

If you don't have time to find someone--which I'm sure you could do--friends..anyone-lol. I would just put in in a high ponytail and let it fro--I think that looks cute. Or fro'd with a nice headband. kinda a retro look. good luck

How should I do my African American daughter hair for school I CAN'T DO HAIR?

Please do not relax that baby's hair. Because you would really have to make sure that you keep her hair moisturized. Just find someone that can braid it down. Not only is it convenient it is also good for the hair.

What is the best flat iron for African American hair and where can i find it?

Need a really good flat iron but what the heck! the have Ceramic and ceramic Tourmaline(oops on the spelling!) but im super confused!

What is the best flat iron for African American hair and where can i find it?

I am African American as well and here's what I do....comb my hair before I put my head in water. Wet your hair in warm water and rub shampoo in....rinse out....add more shampoo...rinse out. Wring out hair gently place towel on hair and rub lightly. Add conditioner from root to end of hair all over....let it sit for about 15 mins. (in the meantime you can put dinner up) lol Rinse conditioner out and wring hair again and rub hair lightly w/ towel. Use a generous amount of setting lotion, put a horizontal part in crown of head and wrap your hair. Once you wrap it sit under dryer or let air dry. Once dry comb hair down, use a little grease to grease scalp not to put on hair. Rub Kemi Oyl or spray Razac hair oil (whatever u prefer) on hair and wrap it back up and the next morning comb it down and get on with your day. In the beginning u might have to flat iron it before u wrap it but after a while your hair with be trained to fall in place with a nice healthy bend. P.S. Try not to use your curling iron or flat iron too much, causes severe breakage

As a stylist, I have used a lot of flat irons/hair straighteners, including Sedu, Hai, Infrashine, Chi, Paul Mitchell, Solia, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss Ghd, T3, Kenta etc. You should get a Professional hair straightener, they style much better and faster, and most importantly, they protect your hair.

In terms of performance:

The best ones are: Sedu, Kenta, Solia, Infrashine, Ghd. These are top of the line professional brands

Above average: Chi, Hai, Paul Mitchell,

Average: T3, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss

Below Average: Conair, Vidal Sassoon, Revlon, Bed Head etc. These are cheap consumer brands that you will find in drugstore. If you care about your hair, do NOT buy them.

I got my Solia a few years back, it worked great for my hair (and my sister's hair too). Last August my sister went to a college in california, she took the Solia with her. Initially I wanted another Solia, but Jonna (my hair stylist) convinced me to get a Sedu. I did. Like Jonna said, Sedu is the best.

Now they have 2008 model (Sedu Revolution) , i can't wait to try it!

I want to color my hair (african american)...which brand is the best?

Coloring ur hair is perfectly fine for an african american woman but if u just got a relaxer (like b 4 2 weeks) u should wait , but after the wait try using loreal tomes and textures thats what i used and everthing came out fabulous just don't do it urself go to a profesional.

I want to color my hair (african american)...which brand is the best?

You need to make sure your'e hair is healthy and strong enough by a proffessional first because the end result could be baaaad breakage. Also proffessional hair color has the purest ingrediants. Store bought color is like hotdogs; they use all the leftovers and mix them up to create a product. Plus there high in metal content, wich clashes with relaxed hair big time. If your hair is healthy enough for color, make sure the color is skin tone complimentary and make sure you moisturize daily because color is super drying, especially the lighter you go.

I want to color my hair (african american)...which brand is the best?

I personally would not color your hair if you are chemically relaxed. That would result in a lot of breakage and you would have to be very careful with your hair i.e. not flatironing it like ever and not wearing tight styles.

I suggest that you use a color rinse that is temporary and lasts about 2 weeks, but you can do the rinse every 2 weeks. I use Colorshowers, a dominican rinse and it not only makes my hair shiny and colored, but protects it from damage such as from the sun, wind, and heat. You can find the rinse on http://www.roundbrushhair.com/ It only costs about 20 dollars and they have a lot of colors!

If you are natural I still wouldn't color your hair because natural hair is still very fragile because of all the little curls and kinks. Do the rinse! I've noticed that my breakage has stopped after doing the rinse also =) I used the one in black.

I want to color my hair (african american)...which brand is the best?

I think dark and lovely color are good it leaves your hair soft and the color doesn't fade or the creme of nature colors I've been using those color for years and it hasn't damage my hair it's just when i bleached it it started breaking or try using the new color mousse it works good and doesn't harm your you can use it the same day you relax your hair it says it but it's a semi-permanent color it washes out in like 6-8 washes.

How do I get my African-American relaxed hair to be soft, smooth, %26amp; manageable after I wash it myself?

Hmmmm, have you tried rollersetting or braidouts. Try this:

1)wash with moisturizing shampoo

2)deep condition

3)apply a leave-in or Lottabody setting lotion (dilute it with water)

4)Put magnetic rollers in your hair and rollerset it(http://healthytextures.typepad.com/my_jo... )

5)Wrap your hair and put saran wrap over it. Sit under the dryer for 15 minutes

For braidouts, after doing the first three steps, put hair into braids. When dry, unbraid. You should be left with waves. do not put in too many braids!

What brand of weaving hair looks natural like permed African American hair?

There are too many of them to name. What you would want to do is decide what type of style you are going for and then match it accordingly. If you can tell me exactly what you are looking for I will be able to better help. Just off of the top an inexpensive and very effective brand is Beverly Johnson...but there are much better products...but the investment depends on what you are going to use it for..it can get to be pretty costly.

What brand of weaving hair looks natural like permed African American hair?

Zury, it great a 10inch cost around 21.00. I get it all the time mines last about three weeks it depends on how well you keep it up. I'n into soft natural looking styles like a layered body wrap look. And what i do at night to maintain my style, i put a couple of soft rollers in my hair (the crown-like four big ones) and i wrap the rest around my head and wear a satin cap. At times when i'm lazy and don't want to roll my hair up i use hot rollers in the morning, let it set for 5 minutes, unroll, play with if for a minute and then go. What brand of weaving hair looks natural like permed African American hair?

The type of hair that you want to get is called "Yaki" or "Yaky" hair.. it is a general type that many hair brands carry.. it even breaks down more to types like yaki permed and yaki silky.. but you have to take your time and look. I'd also suggest that you search the internet for hair weaving forums, there are alot of them that can give you reccommendations. Alot of people don't buy their hair from beauty stores, they order it off of the internet. From alot of those forums, you can find out what brand of hair is better to buy vs others . for example according to the sites that i've visited, beauty store hair brands like bev. johnson and milky way aren't as good as outre, janet or harlem 125. It all depends on what you are into and how much you are willing to spend. As for the custom hair types that I have heard of but never purchased, there is Wegmans, Bohyme and Extensions Plus.

As a black woman, you Know how it is when it comes to our hair

Good luck!

Ok I'm african american with hair lol?

its first time dying my hair. what do I need to know is it a bad thing should I dye my hair in the winter does it matter. Yeah I'm letting a professional salon dye my hair so what do I need to know please help.

Ok I'm african american with hair lol?

k after u dye ur hair dont die it a again for a couple of months or ur hair will start falling out

Ok I'm african american with hair lol?

Condition your hair very well before you get it colored. Seeing as you are going to a professional, I trust you'll be ok. Think twice before bleaching though -- very damaging to the hair.

Jazzy

Ok I'm african american with hair lol?

Go to the salon you will be having your hair done. Have them inspect the health of your hair and ask them if your hair is in good shape to color. Tell them all chemical treatments you have had and when you had them. This is very important. You don't want the chemicals lef tin your hair strands to interact and make your hair fall out. Instead the salon can use a different product w dif chemicals. You can do some deep conditioning treatments at home--no need to pay the salon. Good luck

Ok I'm african american with hair lol?

Girl you needa head on over to the salon and ask them to give you a deep conditioner. Something with aloe and a lotta moisturizers. then mayba they can offer you some nice shampoo?

Ok I'm african american with hair lol?

I am an african american with hair that says you should not dye you hair at all, if you must just get subtle highlights, but after doing so much research on black hair i have heard too many horror stories and regrets and them crying over how damaged their hair is. Please do not dye your hair unless you are extremely good with your hair..Do you atleast take these steps... And if you have a relaxer you are already asking for trouble.

With relaxers retaining moisture is key.

1. The shampoo, unfortunately many black women are using shampoos with alcohol , petroleum jelly, and sulfate. step away from them. Don't even think about using pantene's shampoo for relaxed and natural hair.Use Aveda's shampoo.. specifically the name is Brilliant...go to the website. I use it, i love it, it mouisterizes my hair and the products are natural. i have also heard that KeraCare's shampoo is great for relaxed hair.

2. Okay, step two condition it and then it is time to comb it out, Do not use a brush on you hair when it is wet,,it will hate you for it then break off in revenge. Put your your sections use a big tooth comb, to untangle it

3. Do a hot oil treatment atleast once a month with extra virgin olive oil...repeat..EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil..not the regular stuff. unfortunately i have yet to take this step however my hair is doing great. Protein treatment could also be good for you( do some research to find out about the technique) and deep conditioning.

4. Okay on the daily basis you need to pay close attention to your hair...i recommend conditioning your scalp(3-4 times a week) and your ends(everyday) so that they will not get dry and unhealthy Petroleum jellly and mineral oil are weapons of mass destruction ( in other words do not use grease) it does so much harm to your hair it cannot be all explained here. So you ask what do I use...well natural essential oils such as grapeseed oil ( use it for hair it deflects heat so it is good for flat iron users like us) jojoba oil(i use this for my scalp), extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, emu oil, coconut oil...all these natural oils and more love you..i promise. Also consider putting a drop of essential oil such as rosemary, basil, peppermint, and myrrh in 4 tablespoons of carrier oil ( the ones i mentioned before)

5. Next,,if you want your hair straight but still be natural it is time to get a freakin good flat iron.,i have the Chi..it does the job but I recommend getting the Sedu because of the good reviews. make sure to protect your hair..i have so thermal protector from Aveda. When flat ironing your hair do not let the iron stay on your hair for too long, just 1-2 quick swipes.

I strongly advise against flat iron use for those with relaxers.

6. If you have a relaxer ( i have heard and definitely see that Affirm is the best relaxer go to avlon.com) don't continue to relaxe all your hair everytime you go to the salon..just the new growth and try to stretch relaxers 10-14 weeks as long as possible. It is best for relaxers hair to do roller sets under a hooded dryer, with the lowest temperature possible.

7. You do not need to trim your hair everytime you go to the salon maybe every 3 to 6 months.

8. Wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf to prevent damage before you go to bed.

9. Eat healthy, drink lots of water,

10 take multivitamins, and fish oil pills you can get from GNC.

What is the best hair oil to help grow african american hair?

Because we have various hair types it is hard to recomend one type of hair oil; you will probably have to experiment with a few to learn what works best for your hair.

I can advise though on some good tips to help your hair grow!!

Use daily moisterizers that contain water (very important) (such as hair lotion/ detangler / light creams and stay away from heavy oils/greases that literally weigh your hair down. Oh and NEVER use vaseline!

The most important thing for our hair growth is to keep our hair well moisterized every day. Moisture = growth. the longer your hair gets the more attention you will need to give to your ends. The further away your hair is from your scalp the more moisture it will need.

Be sure to use a good conditioner EVERY TIME you wash your hair. When choosing a conditioner, look for ones that contain some combination of such ingredients as lanolin, cholesterol, sulfonated oil, vegetable oil, proteins and polymers.

Cut your ends (about 1/4 inch) every month or so!

Last year i was detemined to grow my hair that has never grew past my neck all my adult life. I was given these few but IMPORTANT TIPS and now my hair is healthier than ever and past my shoulders (which is alot of length for us)

Good luck and have fun watching your hair grow!!

What is the best hair oil to help grow african american hair?

Question about African American curly hair?

I am black and I have naturally curly hair. I relax it because most of the time I like to wear it straight. But sometimes I also like to wear it curly. The problem is the relaxer has obviously taken some of the curl out. I was wondering if anyone knew of any products that I could use to bring more curl out while still relaxing my hair.

Question about African American curly hair?

I am black also and I find that relaxers do way more harm than good. You should try and stop relaxing your hair asap. It sounds as if your hair is very manageable. A hot comb is all you need to get your hair straight when needed and it's not as pricey as a relaxer with much less damage to the hair. (Ask any beautician)

As far as bringing the curl back out, you can check out the site below. Since it's a site with mainly sisters wearing their natural hair or ones transitioning to, you can find a lot of info from different girls and products for curly hair too. I hope this helps.

Good luck with your search.

Question about African American curly hair?

Try Wave Noveau...it lets you straighten your hair and keep the curl.

Question about African American curly hair?

Wet and wavy is good, activator (the spray people who have "curls" use) or even mousse. My younger sister uses it because she's also lost some of the natural curl in her hair.

Question about African American curly hair?

I recommend that you stop relaxing your hair and start going to the Dominicans in your area to straighten your hair. You are doing more harm than good by relaxing your hair. That way you will still have the option to wear your hair curly or straight.

How can I regrow my African American broken hair at the crown, the nape, and around the edges?

My hair at the crown is broken due to constant itching? Around my edges is also broken on one side and at the back of my neck. I get a relaxer every 4-6 weeks and I get two washes and sets a month by a licensed beautician at the mall. I would like to have healthier hair and consistent maintenance between washes and retouches. As an adult, I am trying to take better care of my hair. I'd like my hair to be thicker and full like it was when I was 13. I am now mid twenties. My hair has been through a lot over the years. I just started wearing a Satin Bonnet over the last two months. Will this help?Where am I going wrong? Help!

How can I regrow my African American broken hair at the crown, the nape, and around the edges?

my hair is bald in the center of my head, and its breaking and will not grow. no perm for 2 years Report It

How can I regrow my African American broken hair at the crown, the nape, and around the edges?

I can advise you that african hair needs special attention. First of all you need to scrap the numerous relaxing sessions try relaxing at least once every four months in order to allow for growth to appear. Secondly you should apply scalp moisturiser every two days but since your hear is breaking you should try VIRGIN hair food. Also don't wash it so often, it dries your hair out and the drier finishes it off so do it as few times as you can. But just moisturise. Don't put any weaves on. Let your hair do its thing. Or if possible cut to a shorter more equal length and let it grow evenly from there. Im South African so this is from an african point of view i hope you find a solution to your hair blues and i hope i helped

How can I regrow my African American broken hair at the crown, the nape, and around the edges?

You may need to get to the root of the problem that causes the itching. If you have a scalp disorder that causes you to itch, remedy the problem and your hair may return. Also, check w/ your beautician or a dermatologist to make sure you don't have alopecia which causes your hair to either fall out completely or in patches around your head-specifically where you stated you have issues. Black women have started to have this problem as of late b/c of the styles we're wearing such as weaves, braids, and styles that pull the hair back tightly. If you wear any of those types of styles, I suggest switching to less stressful styles. Also, have your beautician check the type products she uses. You could be having an allergic reaction. Hope your hair is restored to health :)

How can I regrow my African American broken hair at the crown, the nape, and around the edges?

I am African American and I have this same problem with my mother.

Yes a Satin bonnet will help. Satin or silk keeps the necessary oils that your hair needs to be healthy in place wile you sleep at night. The worst thing you can do is sleep with a cotton scarf or bandanna... bad mistake... You also may want to buy a satin pillow case( it cost about $ 4.00 and the beauty supply store) You need to drink more water and get a deep conditioner every time you go to the salon. You also need to get your ends clipped every time you get a relaxer.. your hair ends split from normal every day combing and brushing. The stylist may be using chemicals that are too strong for your hair type. You need to try Dr. miracle temple and nape grease and try his hot grow grease. This should work and you should start seeing changes with in a month.!!!!:)

Good luck

p.s I wish we lived in the same area so I can do your hair for you!!!!

TRY GETTING DEEP CONDITIONERS EVERY TIME YOU GET YOUR HAIR WASHED THAT WILL KEEP THE MOISTURE IN YOUR HAIR. REMEMBER TO TRIM YOUR ENDS EVERY TIME YOU GET A RELAXER. AND AVOID UNNECESSARY BLOW DRYING. ALSO TRY USING DR. MIRACLES HAIR GREASE I USE IT ON MY CLIENTS AND THEIR HAIR HAS GROWN SO MUCH THICKER AND HEALTHIER.

If I have african american type hair, should I only stick to hair color brands geared towards A.Amer

Or can I use other hair color brands?

If I have african american type hair, should I only stick to hair color brands geared towards A.Americans?

nope..you can use anything.

i tend to stick toward hair color products that are cream based if i do use a dye, but i like color cremes that you can put on there and last for about a month or so. this works best because we crave moisture in our hair.

try creme or mousse color treatments that aren't super harsh. however, regular brands will color your hair but..moisture is what you want as well.

African American women hair loss......?

i have been sheading hair like a dog. Its EVERYWHERE. I am only 22yrs old! What can I do?

African American women hair loss......?

If you perm your hair, stop. Also, if you dont brush your hair every day, it could just be the dead hair that wasn't removed from pervious days. You lose 100 strands of hair every day. What I usually do is deep condition my hair once every week and keep it moisturized. Don't use those hardining gels (Pro-Style for example) because they dry the hell out your hair. Last thing, I can't remember the name of it, but if you go to the African-American hair section in stores, the have these jars of anti-breakage creme (There's a black chick with long reddish hair on the label) that you can use. It is light, smells good, it's inexpensive, and works very well.

African American women hair loss......?

I'm wayyy younger than that and I don't lose as much as you seem to but I do lose hair. I asked my stylist and she says that usually when black women lose hair its because of chemical damage.

If you have ever colored your hair, gotten a perm, or even apply lots of heat to your hair,it could result in breakage.

Simple things like stopping the use of hair color can save your hair. Make sure your perms are done properly and on time. Don't wait to long and not to soon because that causes TONS of breakage. If heat is your problem, switch to a ceramic one. They are easier on your hair and make breakage minimal .

An easier way is to simply keep your hair moist. Apply olive oil hair lotions and grease to your hair and massage it into your scalp. Keep the front braided as often as possible and make sure the back (where breakage is usually worst) is always brushed down and hair combed out.

Hope I helped.

African American women hair loss......?

Relaxing? Stop. Those chemicals are probably killing already dead hair cells. Try wearing protective hair styles (not too tight braids, wigs, no glue weaves, etc) for a few months. Also it may be time to switch hair products. Don't use products with alcohol in them and make sure you deep condition at least once a month.

Are you drinking plenty of water? Drink more.

The only thing I use on my hair is Shea Butter, using more than three products at a time can be more damaging than helpful.

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

What are some basic hair care tips for washing and styling for black little girls? How often do you have to wash it, and what type of product is safe for kids? Do you have to relax it to style or braid it? Or, can you just braid it with the natural curl?

Thanks!

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

I think once a week is good to wash the hair. After you wash it you should comb it out into four sections (two on the side, Two in the back braided) Go throuh each section part and lightly grease (with hair grease) after you braid each section rebraid it after you have finished a blow dryer with a comb attatchment is what you should use to dry it. Just undo each section one at a time blow dry it and after your done style how ever. They have childrens shampoo at the store make sure you use conditioner and don't use gel. If the hair is not straight enough you can flat iorn. You do not always have to do a relaxer see how managable the hair is afer you wash and blow dry or flat iorn and make your decision. Good luck! If worse comes to worse take them to the beauty shop.

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

u might want to put some product in it before or else it will be very frizzy..and little hairs will stick out

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

Really it just depends on the child. Its recommended you wash every week to 2 weeks. I wouldn't relax her hair unless you have to, once you start relaxing, you have to keep it up. You could have it braided, but rotate between braiding and natural styles or her hair will break off. Since her hair is naturally curly, you can easily go between braiding and losse styles. As afar as products go, its touch and go since no one person hair responds the same. I recommend "just for me" products or pantene products for women of color. Do make sure she goes to the hairdresser regularly for trimming.

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

Take the kid to the beauty shop! I wash my hair once a week... I would not perm my hair before I get it braided, but some people do..I have short hair and I perm it too often. I wont tell you how much because you would make that kid lose all her hair..if you did it that often. Go to the black side of town and go to the beauty college if you are short on money.

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

I wash my hair once a week, and with a child, you may want to do twice a week. You can style it naturally, by having her hair in a puff ball on the top, just brush it into a pony tail. You don't need to relax it because it's not really that hard to keep up. You can braid it with the natural curl too. Any product is fine, as long as it doesn't have too harsh of chemicals, use the same shampoo you use on your hair.

For a braid you can comb down the middle of the scalp and grease it, also grease all of the scalp and the hair too, that way it won't be dry. Then plait it up on both sides and then put a hair bow on the end.

Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

Growing up, my mom washed my hair once a week and moisturized it with Luster's Pink Oil or something like it. Today, I would say Kemi Oyl is a better choice because it's lighter (and it smells better). As far as styling goes, I would strongly advise advise you to leave the child's hair in it's natural state. You're only going to damage her hair by relaxing it and she's too young to handle hair in a fragile, chemically-altered state. You don't sound like you'd be very confident in dealing with relaxed hair either.

With her natural hair, you have the option to comb it out and plait it several days a week or braid/twist it in ways that last for two weeks at a time. Either way, use a large toothed comb, start from the bottom of the strand of hair and work your way up to the roots. Brush the hair with a natural/boar bristle brush to distribute oil and make sure you don't just put oil on the hair, but oil the scalp too! You can make small braids or comb twists or two-strand twists that will last for about two weeks. All of these styles are going to start with damp hair; you don't need to blow dry it unless you're going to press it. As long as you don't use any hair extensions, styling should be a simple operation taking about 3 hours (plaiting probably takes 20 mins.).
