How can i get my medium/short African american hair into a tight smooth ponytail?

You'd have to get a weave, otherwise it won't be possible.

If your hair is medium to short, it's going to be had to put it up into a "smooth" ponytail. Your ends will look raggedy.

Flat iron it if you want straight hair, and grow your hair out.

if your do not want to perm it press it with ceramic flat irons and do not use and oil

I am not totally sure but my daughter is biracial and I spray it with Olive Oil detangler and then smooth on Pink Lotion and use a Boar brush and that does pretty well. The boar brush does wonders and doesn't hurt her as much. You may have to straighten with a press.

Try a hot comb. Its what we used to do in the 70's. They used to call the hair style a blow out. It can make medium length hair long. Caution it can be painful, LOL but effective if that is your desired result.

LOL! Damn...I've been wondering the same thing, lol just today...haha!

of course you already know for it to be smooth you first need a press or perm. Depending on where you put the ponytail it will look longer and also how your hair is cut. Try using a pomade like Murray's wave or beeswax. It helps keep everything in place. I like to tie my hair down with a bandana to keep the hair tight. Good luck. I dont recommend a weave those look tacky with ponytails.

What is the best heat protectant for african american hair with a straight perm?

Believe it or not products that aren't neccessarily advertised for black people work on our hair. Garnier Fructis has a sleek and shine line that I use and its great! it made my hair stronger because I flat iron my hair a lot. Read the back of some of the products and look for heat protectors. Garnier Fructis has products with heat protectors, Alberto VO5, Thermasilk and a lot more. I use Garnier it works for me! Good Luck with that!

What is the best heat protectant for african american hair with a straight perm?

N0 HEAT!! [haha]

Honestly, just make sure you keep it moisturized...that's key especially with a perm. and try to stay away from using heat as much as you can...roll it when you can, instead of curling it. and wrap it [depending on length] instead of straightening it with heat.

What is the best heat protectant for african american hair with a straight perm?

Nothing, heated hair appliances are very bad for the hair especially when a chemical has been added. Both will dry out the hair, make it become brittle and then eventually break off. Just add a hair dressing to you hair roll it up at the ends with the plastic, snap on, magnetic rollers.

Where can I find a hairdresser for African American hair in Japan.?

Someone asked this awhile ago. I so saved it because I needed to know for future reference.

I was told are more likely to find places in Roppongi, or near army bases that tend to Black hair. I was also informed you can ask the consulate for some information, which would still probably result in an area around a US army base.

I also have this website:

African American: How long to grow tailbone length hair?

I am mixed with african american and asian.

My hair is about shoulder length now.

How long would it take me to grow my hair out to thick, tailbone length? How many years?

I have a regimen that I am following. Trims. Washing every AT LEAST once a week. Deep conditioning. Doing protein treatments. Massaging scalp w/oil. Low to no heat manipulation. Taking vitamins essential for healthy hair growth. Drinking 64 oz of water per day. Eating healthy. Exercising. Keeping hair in protective style, ie, big, thick plaits. etc. etc. So, with me properly taking care of my hair, how long do you think it will take to get to tailbone length?

Don't give dumb answers please.

Thanks in advance. =]

Any information given is greatly appreciated.

Hi I am a Afrro- Caribbean woman and It has taken me 5 years to grow my hair to the length of just past my back bra strap. In order for this to happen, I had to cut down on using relaxers, and almost stop heat styling it. along with all the stuff you incorporate in your regime

I recently found these two sites dedicated to us. and the health and maintainance of our hair. There are quite afew women, showing before and after photos, showing the progress.Take a look, you will be pleasantly suprised.

Can african american relax hair turn curly with any hair products is so can you let me know the product?

When I want my hair scrunchy, I just wash it, towel dry it, and while it's still damp apply gel and mousse to scrunch it to my liking. Depending on your hair type, it should come out the way you want it.

Wash it and apply curl gel to it, that makes it curly. If I let my hair air dry and apply gel (curl gel) it will curl up.

How can i make my hair grow..[african american] my hair is already a great lenght but i want it a li

Hey Girl,

The easiest way to get your hair longer is to let your hair grow without the application of chemical processes like hair relaxers or perms. I am speaking from experience. I have been completly natural or chemical free since 2004. I have been a natural off and on for almost eight years. 2004, was the last time I cut all my hair off. Every time I have let my hair go with a relaxer, my hair has grown past my shoulders- then I'd get the itches for a relaxer. Each and every time I relaxed my hair, my hair would slowly but surely start to break off at the ends. Mind you, I did not go to cheap salons, either. It was like no matter what I did, my hair would become brittle from the perm. Also, my hair growth was BARELY NOTICIBLE. When you are free of relaxers, your hair grows by leaps and bounds. The last time I cut my hair was in the fall of 2004. It was shoulder length at the time, I was so disguested with my hair breaking off- I was like "forget it!" That was the last time I cut more than seven inches of my hair off. My hair has grown so much since then, freinds ask me often if I'm wearing a weave. Also, on a daily basis, I use olive oil on my hair and I visit a salon about every two months to get my hair ends clipped. Hope this helps! God Bless!

Leave in Berts Bee's Avacado conditioner for a day while you are kicking it around your flat.

Or Jojoba oil from any health place, heat it up and leave in hair.

Repairs the cells and gives them nutrients.

Also a small "gro" cut will help remove split ends which will make your hair want to grow more.

unfortunatly, we can't make our hair grow longer faster. the best thing to do is to keep it healthy, it will grow at its own pace. however, make sure you deep condition (depending on texture) weekly, treat your hair to a hot oil treatment, and try to stay away from the heat. our hair can't handle all of it. but if you must protect it from heat. and of course our hair gets thirsty, so give it plenty of oil (not too much bc that will weigh it down). i love extra virgin olive oil, mixed with joba. ps watch out for split ends, and you should see hair growth within 4-8 months.

You can try alot of salon products which are made for hair growth but good luck bcuz most of the time they dont work.. best thing to do is wait and get extensions for the meantime....fushion extensions are expensive but worth it cuz they last at least 9 months-a year

Is keratin bonding safe for african american hair.?

i wouldn't use the word "safe" but rather how much damage? I'm not totally familiar with what you are talking about. I don't know if you're talking about fusion hair, but it has to be removed as carefully as it was put in... see when you having something bonded or fused with your real hair that's gonna stress your hair to a certain extent. but with fusion it's different because it's tiny tiny strands being fused with extensions so it's not like a quick weave with a glob of glue and tracks stuck on your head. anything in which you're adding on is going to cause some damage to it, but it should be minimal. but i would consult with a hair care consultant. just not someone that does hair, but with someone that can do hair and can keep it healthy as well.
