The best thing you should do is to go to a hairstylist that specializes in African American hair. She will know how you should take care of it and what products to buy. Good Luck!

Well, I'm not African-American, but I do know a little about brittle, dry hair. Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair is wonderful for keeping hair soft and not dried out. I advise you use it daily, because nothing works for very long if you are in an air-conditioned or heated environment. Hot oil treatments are great too, and inexpensive to do at home.

I would also recommend taking vitamins formulated especially for hair (usually for hair, skin, and nails combined) as well as fish oil capsules. All of these can be found at any grocery store or pharmacy. They are good for your overall health, and they will make your hair strong and beautiful.

my hair was the same way. i sugeest thst you wash (with a hydrating shampoo) and deep condition 2x a week. if ur hair starts to break from chemical damage use aphogee intensive reconstructor. NEVER use a heat apllaince without using a heat protecter. dry ur hair with a hooded dryer. if u want ur hair to look shinier u could try a semi-permanent/ rinse (they wont dry ur hair out) in a shade thats darker or the same shade as ur natural color. hope this helps and sorry that i wrote so much.

Ok, let me be the first to answer this question.... my answer may not help... i'm full blooded mexican with frizzy hair.... i have bad hair days all the time...i have tried many shampoos, hot irons, hair relaxers, etc... but nothing works... i sometimes search the web for tips or i just simply ask my hairstylist on what i can do to make it look beautiful and healthy.... one tip i can give you is chooping your hair off and putting hair extensions on like beyonce and all those "hot" celebrities... you probably won't do it, but i think you should definately try it...if you don't have the money to do it..save and the results will be amazing.....i hope this helped...

Try to keep it oiled and trimmed at least every 2 weeks. Get a relaxer on a 4 to 8 week basis, depending on the strength of your hair, and style it with hairstyles that suit you!

my,my,my. You may want to reduce your questions to single entries so an attempt to answer may be considered. African-American hair has a natural tendency to by dry. Shampooing once a week is more than enough. Good to your beauty supply store and ask for natural products to cause the least damgae to your hair. Try a good leave in conditioner like Elastic-i-Tea made with green tea. Use heat applicances sparingly and always use a heat control product on your hair when you do use heat applicances. Since you have shoulder length hair, try a wrap style since it does the least heat damage. You do not have to roll it at night, just rewrap it and go to sleep, unwrap in the morning and shake it out.If you do not see natural products, Pantene Pro-v shampoo and conditioner are fairly good and a cholestral rinse out conditioner is good too. Any color put on the hair can damage it. Make sure you keep up the conditioning routine and rinse thoroughly if you do decide to color. Don't forget to keep the split ends cut so your hair has a healthy start at growing longer. Good Luck.

Try to use a deep conditioner at least once a week (cap and dryer to make it sink it) Get Motions CPR conditioner for that. If you just have to wash your hair often try not to do it more than once a week, you will strip what natural oils you have. Use a light hair oil and only oil your scalp not your hair. Ceramic hair appliances are also good but don't use them often. DRINK WATER!!! It may sound like a little thing but water helps your hair and skin. Good luck.

I've heard that rinse out color actually conditions the hair. It sort of coats the hair in a protective layer. But permenant color does dry out the hair and damage it if you don't take care of it by conditioning it regualarly. Hope this helps ^_^!
