Does Backcombing work on African-american hair for dreadlocks?

no offense, but I've only seen it on white people dread sites. Thanks. God Bless.

It depends on your hair type.

If your hair is is kinky/coily/nappy then backcombing it will damage the individual strands and make the locs much weaker which could lead to breakage. Backcombing is a cheat way to build up texture in straight or fine hair. It is a no-no for curly hair.

If you are looking for a quicker way to loc and you have tightly curled hair, then braiding is a better option.

With braiding, keep in mind that the locs will look like braids for quite a while but eventually, the hair will matte and the braided pattern will form into locs.

Do not use beeswax on your hair, you don't need it unless your hair is straight. Beeswax will attract lint and dirt that will be very difficult to wash out.

It does. But you have to get some additional dread spray to make it hold.
