What stops African American hair breakage?

African hair is not designed to be chemically treated (Permed/relaxed) and when we do, we break/distroy the natural protein-bonds in our hair. But there are ways to keep your perm but have healthy hair that grows. You just have to care for it the right way:

I use "Just For Me" kids relaxer (Im 21, but Mixed, so I can't use the strong adult African-American perms because they break my hair.) Its better to use a weaker perm for your hair than a really strong one. A perm/relaxer that is too stong is the major cause in hair weakness/breakage.

I also use "Motions CPR" Conditioning Treatment every week. After you wash your hair, use CPR, put a plastic cap on and sit under a hooded/bonnet hard-hat dryer for 10 mins, then wash it out. (This is Deep Conditioning) This is the BEST thing you can do for damaged hair... hint *CPR (Critical Repair and Treatment). It really does repair your hair and make it so much stronger and grow fast too. It also keeps your hair healthy even if it already is. It's great!!!

I get my hair straighten once every season (spring, fall, winter, summer) so thats also the same time I get my hair trimed. You need to trim your ends too. This is very important to slowly get rid of those dead/split ends which causes moisture lost. Split ends causes your hair to break, because if it cant properly hold moisture, then causes your hair cutiles to open wider and break.

My hair is so thick, healthy %26amp; long from taking care of it and using the products below. I'll give you the links. You can find all of this at Wal-mart, Sally's, or any Black hair store.

Also our hair is made of protein (all protein), so you may want to look into your diet and make sure you are getting enough. Taking a women's multi-vitamin everday will make sure you are getting enough of it, along with calcium which our hair also loves. You have to take care of your hair from the inside and outside. Hair products take care of the outside. But you also have to check on the inside... your diet! to make sure your hair has what it even needs to grow and thicken.

I hope this is helpful to you.

If you perm your hair, stop.

Give your scalp a break to let new hair grow.

Wash your hair 3 times a week with shampoo that states "For damaged or dry hair". These shampoos contain moisture that will help your hair damaged or not.

If you use shampoos that don't state that it will strip your hair of moisture. You can tell that it strips when theres too much lather.

After shampooing get the most penetrating leave-in conditioner that you can get your hands on.

If it's possible find a conditioner that you can leave in your hair and skip a day without moisturizing.

Out of all the races black people have the driest scalp and we have the least moisture held in our hair strands.

Remember to moisturize every day or the dryness will build causing hair breakage.

What stops African American hair breakage?

Do not over process hair or get a perm or color too often. African American hair is dry and fragile at times. Find the shampoo for your hair type and wash your hair aobut once a week. Keep your hair trimmed to avoid split ends.

What stops African American hair breakage?

You really, need to give yourself a hot oil treatment once a month till you get your hair in shape then you can drop back to twice a month. To give it a kick start don't wash so often with shampoo just use a good cholesterol cream and work it in like shampoo every 3 days. Doing things to improve the outside is great but you need to take care of the inside too. So cut the sugar intake a lot then try and get some good oils in your body like extra virgin olive oil. Incorporate that in your diet.

Good Luck.
